The general public is invited to enjoy an educational event called Festival Abierto coming next month to Parque Omar. It offers a lineup of free music concerts on Saturday, March 24 and Sunday, March 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. each day. The aim of the event is to raise environmental awareness. This year’s theme is “celebrating the importance of the oceans and how to protect them for future generations.”
ParqueArte, the non-profit foundation organizing the festival now in its second year, has informed that the Festival Abierto this year will feature an interactive pavilion for children and adults for learning how to preserve natural resources. Attendees will also enjoy plays, music and dance by national and Latin American talents. The Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) will reveal its innovative scientific investigations being carried out in Panama’s unique ecosystem.
National ecological personality Roberto Baum, aka Roba Morena, will be the master of ceremonies. Several organizations will be on hand to provide information on how attendees can be more conscious of the environment in their daily lives.
Free transportation will be provided by buses courtesy of Panama Pacifico. Drivers are encouraged to leave their vehicles parked at the Justo Arosemena Institute on Via Israel and use the buses or walk instead.
Last year the festival had more than 200 artists and 10,000 visitors and it is expected that the number of people enjoying the festival will increase this year.
