Rain or shine, the new park on the Cinta Costera is making waves with the public. While rain isn´t the traditional preferred forecast for a day outdoors, Panama´s recent drought and consequential energy crisis had park goers rejoicing at the thought of some rain on their parade. The cool, crisp air, thick with precipitation, lent itself to an ambience of high spirits that were apparent throughout the park last Sunday.
The park, called Mirador del Pacifico, opened in mid-May and is a welcome addition to Panama´s public recreational facilities. A selection of outdoor
fitness equipment is there for use as well as new tennis and basketball courts. A large amphitheatre foreshadows outdoor concerts to come. An elegant gazebo provides a perfect spot for overlooking the bay.
From the park one can enjoy new views of Casco Antiguo, Panama Bay and the modern city skyline. Hills have been created to provide a fitting elevation to take in the city. The park is part of the works that will unite Balboa Avenue with Avenida de los Poetas on the other side of Casco Anitiguo. The park is also an ideal vantage point from which to take in the new road around the old neighborhood.
For the kids
Children enjoy a variety of playgrounds which have been built including a colorful rope course, rock climbing walls, slide tunnels, swings, seesaws and fountains.
With its vivid colors, expansive spaces, flourishing greenery, and architectural innovation, this wide open waterfront carries an air of Olympic prestige – and one can see the next wave of champions sprinting around the bend.
Promise of a restaurant
Signage indicates that there will be a restaurant although it is not yet open.
