Tourism industry greats awarded with “Huaca” statues at gala event

The first tourism gala of Panama will be held this coming Thursday, July 25 at the Westin Hotel Costa del Este. The event organized by the Panama Chamber of Tourism and the Panama Tourism Authority (ATP) to award tourism companies that have contributed the most to this sector with the “Huaca de Oro” prize and quality certificates. “Huacas” are the pre-Colombian statues made of gold that Panama is known for. The name of this event translates to a play on the “Golden Globe” awards – “Golden Huacas” for the tourism industry here.

Jaime Campuzano, the Tourism Chamber president organizing the event states that a very prestigious jury has been selected to evaluate the nominees. Enterprises Association (APEDE); Tomás Rodríguez, President of the International Development Bank (IDB); the AMCHAM Panama President, María Eugenia Fonseca; and the journalist Lucho Pimentel.

The six categories to be evaluated at the event are: Trajectory; Investment and promotion; Business social responsibility; Environmental sustainability; Innovation; and Micro and small enterprises.
