New gates for canal locks arrive

CortesíaACPCompuertas2_optIn an historic event that marks the next step in the expansion of the Panama Canal, on Tuesday, August 20, the first four rolling gates for the new locks arrived at the Atlantic entrance of the interoceanic waterway. A total of 16 will make up the third set of locks on the expanded Panama Canal. Works are slated to finish in 2015 with a projected cost of $5.25 billion.
