The super foods of Panama

“Super foods” is a statement to describe foods that have beneficial health effects. They are often associated with expensive products, “gourmet” and imported, but in reality you can find a variety here in Panama, and there is nothing better than eating fresh foods in their natural state, locally grown, to give a boost to our lives and fill us with health.

Pag18_optCacao and avocado are two examples of super foods found in abundance here in Panama. The national avocado is grown in the wild (not in large industrial farms or as mono-culture), which means it does not need chemicals, and there are many varieties of flavors, colors and shapes. This super food has become an ally in the prevention of Alzheimer’s.

And there is cacao which in its pure and natural form is an antioxidant and one of the best super foods. We’re not talking about commercial chocolate. The medicinal properties of cacao are found in the seeds and among them we can mention that they promote cerebral circulation, protect the cardiovascular system and strengthen the immune system.

Being healthy is the basis for living in harmony with our environment and contributing to the sustainability of the planet. Super foods are a gift from nature which help us to live in a preventive manner, allowing our food to also be our medicine.
