Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a new business trend that is becoming a part of business models put in use by companies today. The basic explanation is that companies start to take responsibility for their actions and encourage a positive impact on the environment, consumers, employees, communities and stakeholders.

World Confederation of Businesses (WORLDCOB) is an organization that promotes entrepreneurial development worldwide, with members in over 60 countries. WORLDCOB helps companies develop within a framework of sustainability and social consciousness.

WORLDCOB hosted recently in Panama a conference on CSR where it gave awards to companies that were certified as socially responsible by the organization. Panama was chosen as the center in Central America to host these seminars because its development and growth, make it an example to follow.

Daniel Javier is the Director of Quality and CSR for WORLDCOB. His job is to advise and train entrepreneurs in order for them to become certified. The management system makes companies follow procedures and develop norms to integrate universal values in work strategies.

“We see ourselves as a tool to unite the business, society (the consumer) and the environment,” says Javier, “Integrating all of these aspects will help fulfill the United Nation’s pact for the millennium.”
