Every year, according to the World Health Organization, more than 1.38 million new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed every year and in Panama alone there 466. For that reason, October has been designated the pink month to raise cancer awareness.
Different campaigns have been organized all over the country not only to make the population understand the importance of examination for the early detection of this fatal illness, but to have some fun too. All the monies collected by the activities will be donated to Fundayuda and Fundacancer, organizations that bring information and support to cancer patients.
Avon products and a walk
The cosmetic company Avon launched its “Crusade against breast cancer.” This campaign includes product promotions on Glicerina Nutri Plus one litre, 2 pack Tin Cruzada Rosa and Totally Kissable lipstick.
On Sunday, October 27, Avon is holding a walk beginning at 7:00 a.m. starting from Albrook Mall (between Novey and Panafoto). Sign up costs $10 and it is a five-kilometer walk.
The Pink and Blue awareness campaign (breast and prostate cancer) was officially inaugurated by Panama’s First Lady, Marta Linares de Martinelli on Sunday, October 6 at the Oncologico Nacional, together with Fundacancer. State buildings, including the Presidency in Casco Antiguo, are lit up with pink lights to denote this month’s campagin.
On Sunday, October 27 there is going to be a walk at the Coastal Strip.
