Classic old cars don antique Canal Zone license plates on Roberto Durán movie set
Over the long weekend, the Panama Canal Administration Building in Balboa was a filming location for the major Hollywood production “Hands of Stone,” a movie about the life of Panamanian boxer Roberto Durán. The wooded parking area surrounding the Goethal’s Monument at the foot of Ancón Hill was lined with shiny, classic cars and also some military vehicles from era.
The automobiles were adorned with antique Canal Zone license plates which bore a former slogan for the interoceanic waterway – “FUNNEL FOR WORLD COMMERCE.”
