Panama is not on the itinerary of Royal Caribbean Cruises for the next season, leaving only Pullmantur using Colon 2000 as a home port.
“A month ago we were told they would take the ship to the port of Tampa in Florida, so we had the opportunity to negotiate to find an alternative,” said Solomon Shamah, administrator of the Panama Tourism Authority (ATP).
Prensa.com reports: “…the departure of Royal Caribbean could be interpreted as an adjustment to its operations, considering that this company is the largest shareholder of Pullmantur, that wull continue to operate from Panama”.
Augusto Terracina, of Adventure 2000m the home port operator, said that although losing a ship is not positive, expectations for this season are encouraging.
“Understanding the company’s strategy to leave us with a single cruise ship, now we will have a ship every week for a whole year, and that’s important,” he added.
