Singers from the Thames Centre Community Choir will be traveling from Canada to Panama to participate in the annual Carols By Candlelight Festival, taking place on Saturday, December 7 at sundown. The event takes place at the Mirador del Pacifico Park, near the Fish Market on the Cinta Costera. It is raising funds for the Santo Tomas Hospital and the Hogar Malambo orphanage.

The Thames choir hails from London, Ontario and will be bringing with them a new carol especially for the event: “The Shepherds and the Mejoraneros.” The piece was written specially for the event, commissioned from internationally-recognized Canadian composer, Beverly Lewis. It will receive its world premiere here in Panama.

Sing along

The candle-wielding crowd will sing along with the carols reading their songbooks. Reserved seats are available at $15 and $20, and include an LED candle. General seating is free, with the option to bring a chair or stool to the park. Candles cost $5 or $10. Contact clubcanadaplus@gmail.com for further information on tickets

Snowbird event

As if the CanadaPLUS Club did not have its hands already full, it is organizing an event for Snowbirds, welcoming in Panama’s half-the-year community, on Thursday, December 5. The Thames Choir will be in attendance and a ceremonial Christmas tree lighting will be enjoyed by all.

The cost is $20 for members, $25 for non-members. Contact clubcanadaplus@gmail.com.
