Chili aficionados take note. Sunday, February 2, the Balboa Yacht Club’s grand, annual Chili Cook-Off seeks to find the best chili on the Isthmus. A secret panel of expert judges will go undercover to discover the chefs with the golden touch. There is a special prize for showmanship so teams are encouraged to bring props or paraphernalia related to their team’s motif.

The McChilies: Jonathan Jones, Lorna Duplooy and Vito Cortese.

Last year’s winners, the McChilies, featuring Vito Cortese, Lorna Duplooy and Jonathan Jones, blew away the competition. They coolly claim that this year will be a repeat performance so if you think your chili has the “right stuff” to knock them off their pedestal please join the fun.

The cook- off will be held at The Balboa Yacht Club in Amador on Sunday February 2, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. You can participate by contacting the Balboa Yacht Club at The fee is $25 fee and all proceeds will be donated to the VFW association.

Competing chili must be made from scratch on site. The event is open to the public who, for a small donation, will be able to sample the chili and vote for their favorite team. Winners will be announced at 5 p.m.

Plan to stay the whole day. Panamanian rock legends “Golden Keys” will be playing to make sure that the afternoon is full of rock n’ roll! After the cook off you are invited to stay on to watch Super Bowl, XLVIII hosted by Cerveceria Nacional.
