Macrofest 2014 where art and fashion meet
Macrofest, the most important design and arts festival of the year, is back. Nascent talents in the arts will be given a platform to showcase their work to thousands of people expected to attend the event at Casco Antiguo in mid-March. As an extra incentive, prizes totaling more than $10,000 will be awarded to the winners of six different disciplines in two separate contests.
Macrofest’s theme this year is “100 more years of ingenuity,” taking its cue from the 100 year anniversary celebration of the Canal. In support of youth involvement in the arts, the festival will host a series of workshops at the American Trade Hotel, las Bóvedas, Casa Góngora and the Anita Villalaz Theater. An art exhibition is planned which will include photography. Live music and fashion shows will enliven the event.
In the “Heineken Green Space” contest, the categories being judged are plastic arts, photography, digital art, performance art and installations. Winners of each category will receive $1000 and runners-up will be awarded $500.
Dulce Gusto is the sponsor of the “Hot” Couture fashion contest. Three winners will be chosen who will each receive $1000. The grand prize winner will also receive a scholarship to study fashion at La Salle University.
A call for entries is taking place now through Monday, February 24. Designers and artists are asked to visit www.macrofest.com for guidelines. Submissions will be received at email@example.com from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
The contest winners will be announced during the festival which will take place Tuesday, March 11 through Saturday, March 15.
