The most important theater and contemporary dance event in the country, the Festival Internacional de Artes Escénicas (International Stage Arts Festival or FAE14), will be held this month. Recognized as one of the principle encounters of artistes in Latin America, the event takes place once every two years, and will dominate the scene in Casco Antiguo —its theaters, plazas and alternative performance sites— from Thursday, March 27 through Wednesday, April 2.

This project will bring to Panama the best talent working in theater and dance from around the world, with an emphasis on Ibero-America. Troupes from Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, the United States, Spain, France, Mexico and, of course, Panama, will be performing. The main stages are the Teatro Nacional and the Anita Villalaz Theater, though the open plazas of Casco Antiguo will also see much of the spectacle, which includes shows for everyone, including children.

FAE does not hold a formal call for entries. All participating performers are tapped through direct invitation or by way of submitting video auditions. FAE favors smaller scale productions that do not require complicated sets or props, which allows for the free form nature of the event.

Fans of the stage arts can stay informed of FAE14’s program details by writing to info@faepanama.org.
