An event that promotes classical music, the Alfredo De Saint Malo Festival, will take place from Wednesday, May 28 until Sunday, June 8 at the National and Anita Villalaz Theaters and at the City of Knowledge’s Athenaeum. Artists from the United States, China and Latin America will showcase their talents for eleven days.
This year the festival is dedicated to the Panamanian pianist, cellist, percussionist and composer, Fermin Castañedas del Cid, who during his long career composed orchestra, chamber and ballet music.
There will be music clinics with professors from Louisiana State University, the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, the Youth Orchestra of the Americas and, for the first time, lecturers from Northern Colorado University and the University of Minnesota.
Renown international soloists including Michael Gurt, James Hall, Young-chiao Wei, Fernando Meza and Lin He will take center stage. Other famous artists who will be present include the great orchestra director, Carlos Riazuelo, the virtuoso child pianist, William Chen, and national talents such as Jorge Ledezma Bradley, Ingrith Saavedra, the Panama National Symphonic Orchestra and the Camerata Panama.
Foreign students from Latin America, the Caribbean and the United States will take part in the festival, lending an added dimension to this musical extravaganza.
The Panama Music Festival Alfredo de Saint Malo (ASMF) is the brainchild of the Panamanian cellist, Isaac Rodríguez Casal, and other local musicians with the purpose of reuniting national and international performers in a large-scale cultural and artistic exchange through different activities to enrich their knowledge and musical passion.
Tickets for all the concerts can be bought at boletospanama.com. Entrance to the concerts at the National Theater cost $35-$8; at the Anita Villalaz Theater $20-$10 and at the City of Knowledge Athenaeum $20-$8.
