The eighth golf tournament of the 2014 NEC Series, the PGA Tour Latinoamérica May 19 – 25, will take place for the first time at the Buenaventura Golf Club located in Río Hato, Coclé province. This event marks the end of the first half of the NEC Series’ 2014 season and will bring top golfers to the country to compete for the $150,000 purses.
The golf championship was renamed the “NEC Series – PGA Tour Latinoamérica” in April of 2013 when the NEC Corporation announced it would be expanding its sponsorship presence on this leg of the PGA Tour. The 2014 season began in January in Lima, Peru with stops in eight other destinations before this half-way mark in Panama. The complete season features 18 competitions in places such as Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil.
On May 19, 12 players will compete for spots in the tournament, with two places reserved for Panamanians. They will be joined on the green by three of Panama’s golf stars, Mike Norman, Omar Tejeira and Marcos Cabarcos. The total field will comprise 144 players hailing from 25 countries. They will begin competing on Thursday, May 22 and will conclude on Friday, May 23.
On the 21st, a Pro Am competition will be held for teams of four players (one pro and three amateurs). The Pro-Am inscriptions fees are $200 (club members) and $300 (non-members) per-player.
