Foodies take note: the Panama BBQ Fest is back for its ninth season, this time at the Coronado Equestrian Club on Saturday, May 31 from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. Organized by Shockwave Entertainment, the open air event features more than 30 teams competing to become Grand Champion of grilled food in Panama. More than 5000 people are expected to attend and enjoy a day of BBQ, beer and live music.
BBQ Fest Panama began in 2007 when a group of friends decided to share their taste for grilled foods in a competition setting at Figali Plaza where more than 25 teams participated. The contest quickly grew in popularity and now takes place twice a year in locations throughout the country with high profile sponsors such as Weber Grills and Budweiser Beer. Anyone can participate in the cooking contest, which is judged across three categories: ribs, steak and chicken. Grilling prowess is not the only thing being measured, as teams must demonstrate showmanship in their stand as well as uniforms.
In addition to the official contest, there will be an area set aside for amateur cooks to bring their grills and participate in the festivities. To do so costs $20 which permits you to bring your grill and all the meats and veggies you wish to cook. Outside drinks are not permitted.
Entry to the event costs $7, charged at the box office and pets are welcome. For more information, contact Shockwave at 393-2420 or visit Panamabbq.com.
