A new Latin pop sensation has been making headways across the American continent. Ariel Pérez, better known as Relio, is a native of Argentina who now resides in Panama to launch his music to the world.

A model and singer-songwriter, he began his interest in a musical career at the age of ten when he started playing guitar. It was when he turned 14 that he started composing his own songs and “hasn’t stopped since.”

He played guitar in various rock bands in Argentina, gaining experience playing to large crowds, touring his country and performing in “incredible places.” At 23 years of age, he went solo and began to play his own songs, transitioning from rock and roll to playing ballads and pop tunes. “It was a drastic change, but it’s what filled my soul,” he said.

The Green Room on Via Porras was the site of Relio’s official launch party, marking his entry to Panama’s music market. So far Relio has been well-received. A slick video produced by Seven Productions for his merengue-mambo track, “Eres Tú,” was filmed in Casco Antiguo and the Cinta Costera. His next release, “De lado a lado,” is his first excursion into the style of reguetón. That video will be shot in Colombia and will be promoted locally as well as in Ecuador, Argentina and Peru.

For the time being, it appears Relio is here to stay. As of five months ago, a Panamanian businesswoman has “occupied his heart.”
