A party of presidential proportions
Panama’s new president, Juan Carlos Varela, officially becomes head of state Tuesday, July 1. To mark the occasion of the president-elect taking possession of his new office, a national holiday has been declared. Varela’s inauguration ceremony will take place at the Rommel Fernández Stadium after the installation of the National Assembly.
After the pomp and circumstance, a party will take place at the Cinta Costera where everybody is invited to celebrate the country’s new leader. According to the official presidential communiqué, “Let us come together as fellow Panamanians to peacefully celebrate a new and true democratic period in the history of the nation.”
The “Festival of Democracy” is a family-friendly event that will begin at 5 p.m. There will be two stages on which live musical presentations will be given by top Panamanian artistes, a line-up which includes Nenito Vargas, Samy y Sandra, Ulpiano Vergara, Manuel de Jesús, Alfredo Escudero, Flex, Aldo Ranks, El Rookie, Ness, Jr Ranks, Mista Mach, the National Symphonic with Richie Velásquez and Osvaldo Ayala.
Juan Carlos Varela is the 37th President of Panama.
In addition, there will be games for children, free food and drink from “recognized restaurants,” a fireworks display and a “torch parade.”
