The 10th International Book Fair is taking place at the Atlapa Convention Center up to Sunday, August 24. The fair’s motto is “The Great Imagination Empire,” a reference to this year’s guest country, Mexico. The literary festival will have more than 100,000 books of which 3,000 titles are part of Mexican literature.

The Book Fair will also have Mexican food to honor the guest country as well as workshops directed towards children and adults. There will be an English book section where the latest novels and other books can be acquired at a good price.

There will be 54 dancers performing traditional Mexican dances, plus films and the Fair’s first conference about theater. Around 300 workshops will take place simultaneously.

This year one of the speakers is Darah Zeledon, author of the book “The Girl with the Crooked Smile,” who will talk about his autobiographical work at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 24. It is a riveting tale of survival sprinkled with true wit –a la Erma Bombeck meets potty-mouthed Joan Rivers– intertwined with self-discovery, honesty, tragedy and the unbreakable will to survive it all.

The fair gathers famous authors from the region, the United States and Europe who come to meet their fans and give advice to budding writers.

The doors open from 9:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Entrance price: $4 for adults, $1.50 children and $2.50 pensioners. For more information visit
