Expo-Turismo, the annual travel convention now in its fifth edition, returns to Atlapa Friday, September 26 and Saturday, September 27. The event is made possible through the collaboration of Panama’s Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture (CCIAP), Panama’s Chamber of Tourism (CAMTUR) with support from Panama’s Tourism Authority (ATP).
The fair will follow the same format as in times past. On Friday, the expo will be open exclusively for industry professionals and international buyers to engage in business meetings from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
On Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. the doors will open for the general public. This year, this date coincides with the celebration of World Tourism Day, the global observance that highlights tourism’s social, cultural, political and economic value, held under the auspices of the United Nation’s World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).
This year’s expo will feature travel companies promoting their vacation packages with deals for attendees at wholesale prices. Banks will also be on hand to offer financing.
As a special highlight, a delegation of Portuguese companies and buyers will be present in good measure, all to promote the frequency of the Lisbon-Panama route offered by TAP Airlines. In all, participants from over 20 countries will be on hand from Europe, the Caribbean and North, Central and South America. Local companies promoting their services include cruise ship lines, hotel chains, golf clubs, shopping centers and transportation providers.
Jennifer Champsaur, ATP Sub-administrator, explained that a new campaign will be unveiled to encourage the friendly treatment of tourists by the public at large. She stressed that the country’s entire population needs to understand the impact that the travel sector has on the economy and that it is in the hands of Panamanians whether or not visitors will return to the country on future vacations.
