The Bid 4 Boquete Tee Off charity golf tournament

p. 8 b4b_logo_fmtThe successful Bid 4 Boquete organization that benefits several local charities already has a track record for raising significant funds with its three-day schedule in March that includes a Wine Tasting, Live Auction, Silent Auction, Food Court, Patio Sale and other great events. Now they have added a Golf Tournament to the mix.

Ten-year Boquete resident, Penny Ripple, is the daughter of world famous trick shot golf professional, Paul Hahn. She began doing the William Tell Shot with her father driving a golf ball off her mouth at age 8. It was a natural idea for Penny to come up with a golf tournament to add to the roster of Bid 4 Boquete events to be held February 25 & 26, 2015 at the beautiful Lucero Country Club just outside Boquete.

These dates are positioned between the weekends of the Boquete Jazz & Blues Festival and the Bid 4 Boquete auction. Lucero Golf & Country Club is recognized as the best golf Chiriqui has to offer and is known for its long, wide and interesting fairways and breathtaking views of the mountains and the Pacific. In addition to being a fabulous golf course, it is an outstanding outdoor experience of the Highlands of Panama.

A very active committee of over a dozen Boquete residents is dividing up the tasks involved in pulling off such an exciting golf event. As one committee member said “It’s what’s great about Boquete….you can come up with an idea that fits your personal passion, and our community gets behind it, rolls up their sleeves, and has fun making it happen.” Boquete has a large expat community consisting of citizens from all over the world, and there are several opportunities to have fun and help the community.

The tournament will include a Check-in Cocktail Party on February 25 at Mango’s Restaurant where main event sponsor, Panama Red Rum, will serve its award-winning rum and players will get their hole assignments for the shotgun start and tournament rules for the next morning. Players will participate in the scramble format tournament, to determine winners in three flights. In case of a tie, a scorecard sudden-death mark-off will break the tie.

There are several contest holes including Straightest Drive, Longest Drive Men, Longest Drive Women, Closest to the Pin, two ‘hole-in-one’ opportunities for merchandise prizes and a $50,000 cash-prize hole-in-one contest. In addition, fun activities will include a 3-hole green, a 15” cup, foursome photo stop, beverage carts, a hospitality house for gallery viewing and an awards ceremony.

This first Bid 4 Boquete Tee Off charity golf tournament is sure to be an exciting addition to the annual charity event while raising more money for a variety of worthy causes.
