A Calypso-music party is in store for this Sunday, May 3 at 3 p.m. in the gymnasium of Colegio Episcopal San Cristóbal in Colón, to mark the start of Panama’s month-long celebrations of black heritage and in honor of Labor Day.
This Caribbean-style concert features presentations by Leslie George, the great Ringing Bell (his real name) and “la madame magnifique,” Yomira John, accompanied by Grupo Amistad and, from Costa Rica, special guest, Ramon Morales.
The concert will be the the subject of a local film production, the documentary, “El Calipso en Panamá” (“Calypso in Panama), starring Leslie George. The Sunday-night musical extravaganza will be used for the the movie’s opening scene. The film project seeks to document the cultural legacy of calypso music in Panama and will feature several national stars.
Tickets for the concert are available at Ticketplus.com.pa and at Ticketplus outlets located in El Rey supermarkets,Metro pharmacies and Epago locations. Tickets are $15. The documentary producers are offering a 10% discount at the box office for those attending in Afro Antillean style clothing.
