Schools in the area of Boquete, Chiriquí, were recently entertained by the acrobatic skills of Gramo Danse, the renowned aerial dance troupe based in Panama City. In company of my daughter and her entire school, the International Academy of Boquete, I got to see the first-rate spectacle this group is known for.
I approached Katherine Buckton Olle, executive director of the Gramo Danse Foundation. In her own words: “The Foundation has been in existence for 17 years now. Our mission is to promote the practice and appreciation of aerial and contemporary dance.”
Throughout the year, Gramo Danse team provides public tutorials and workshop presentations. Their community outreach program, Danzárea, offers courses in “aerial and contemporary dance, ballet and theater to underprivileged children in order to instill love of dance and a culture of peace.”
During the month of April, Gramo Danse made presentations in Penonome, La Villa de Los Santos, Santiago, David and finally, in the Los Naranjos gymnasium in Boquete where we got the chance to see them.
