On Friday, June 26 and Saturday, June 27, the country’s female national costume, the “pollera,” will be celebrated in earnest with the 3rd annual Pollera Forum and National Pollera Contest taking place at the Atlapa Convention Center.
On Friday from 6 – 9 p.m., Panamanian folklore specialist, Eduardo Cano, will host the National Pollera Forum, an event that brings together experts in the field who will meet to exchange ideas about pollera creation, design, jewelry and accessories.
Expectations rise on Saturday from 1 – 10 p.m. with the National Pollera Contest, scheduled at 5 p.m. amidst a day-long fair with “típico” Panamanian food, song and dance and a pollera fashion runway.
Tickets to the event cost $40, provide two-day admission and come with a manual on the correct use of the pollera.
