Travelers benefit on domestic deals
“Panamá Primero” (Panama First) is a new initiative headed by the country’s Tourism Authority (ATP) that is providing deep discounts for travel to Chiriquí. Packages include a two-night stay at one of an ample number of participating hotels and a round trip flight from Panama City to David. Add-on activities or tours, offered at special rates, can also be booked as part of the deal.
“Chiriquí, la aventura está aquí” (Chiriquí, the adventure is here), is the name of the travel promotion with rates that start at $185.80 for a two-night stay and round trip flight. Complimentary tour packages vary in rate depending on the activity.
Savvy diners can book a 10% discount at Cerro Brujo Gourmet in Volcán or Fanny’s Terrace Bistro in Cerro Punta with prior reservation.
The famed plantations of the Janson family can be toured to learn about the cultivation and processing of some of the most coveted varieties of coffee beans on the international market. Located in Volcán, the dynamic operation includes a host of other activities, including birding, also available at a discounted rate as part of the ATP program.
Animal lovers will not want to pass up an “Equine Tour” of the Harás Cerro Punta stable or a visit to the Finca Cerlana Nature Reserve, where birders and trekkers can enjoy a canopy view atop a special platform.
Finca Dracula, the renowned orchid nursery near Cerro Punta, nestled at the edge of the La Amistad National Park, is also offering deals on tours where visitors can learn about some of the rarest species of the coveted plant.
Ancient history buffs will find much to ponder at the Sitio Barriles archaeological site, a place believed to have once been a socio-ceremonial center with a substantial residential population, today part of the Landau finca, a private property. The family is offering guided tours of the collections and their gardens in both Spanish and English.
For details on any of these offers, visit ATP.gob.pa and click on “Chiriquí, la aventura está aquí.” Travelers must pre-book deals with the individual providers listed on the site. The promotion is projected to last through October 31.
