The Panamanian territory will host the first edition of the Giro de Panamá, a cycling competition that will tour the country Thursday, August 6 – Sunday, August 9. The event, which has attracted international participation, will take place across five provinces of the Republic.
Cyclists from 32 countries will gather to compete in the several categories, including “amateur” and “executive.” A total of $50,000 is being offered in prizes for the different categories.
The first stage begins in David, Chiriqui, continuing the following day with the second leg in Chitre, Herrera. The route will be from Chitre toward the town of Las Tablas, in Los Santos province, doubling back to return to Chitre.
On the third day, the queen stage, the riders will compete in the beach area along the Interamerican Highway towards Anton, Cocle, finishing in El Valle de Anton.
The last day will take the cyclists to the Province of Panama where they will compete in a closed circuit of 7.7 kilometers. Each rider must comply with nine laps for a total of about 70 kilometers.
The event is organized by the Panamanian company, Herya Enterprise, and enjoys support from the Tourism Authority of Panama, the Panama Canal Authority, along with the Mayor’s Offices of Panama, David, Chitre, Las Tablas and Anton. The race is endorsed by the Panamanian Cycling Federation (Federación Panameña de Ciclismo).
