The Hayah International Short Festival, in its ninth edition, will show the work of cinematographers from Latin America, Asia and Europe. The event starts this Thursday 10 and will continue until Wednesday, September 16, at the Anita Villalaz Theater, in Casco Antiguo. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.
This the only Central American festival exclusively dedicated to short films. More than 15 countries are taking part with 61 productions divided in four categories: fiction, documentary, animation and Panama New Directors award. A winner from each section will be chosen, and the public’s favorite short will receive a commendation too. This year the guest country is the United Kingdom.
The festival will also have free master classes and workshops at the American Trade Hotel during the week of the festival. The public will have the opportunity to attend to the festival opening party as well as mingling with national directors before and after every show.
The III Panama Film Lab will take place at the same time as the Hayah. This program which aims to develop the film industry in the region will give scholarship to budding Latin American cinematographers. The organizers have also selected the work of 15 directors to critique and advise them with regards to film production, direction and distribution.
Hayah organizers have created a crowdfunding campaign called Costeame (Pay me) Costea.me/campaigns/hayah). The packets available include different types of incentives, like discount tickets and the opportunity to participate in the festival activities.
