Congos are an essential part of the Afro-Caribbean culture.

The festivities continue on Saturday, October 31 from 10 a.m. with an outdoor zumba session. At 11am, it is the turn of the storytellers who will narrate their tales on the beach. After enjoying delicious Caribbean dishes for lunch, there will be more activities like the painting workshop for children and young people, taught by Gilberto Jordán, the acclaimed painter who came second in the VI National Contest for New Artists organized by the National Bank.

The event will come to a climax with a torch parade and a Concue Congos encounter, involving “palenques” (dance troupes) from Costa Rica and Costa Abajo, followed by folkloric groups and national artists, among them the singer Candela (Lorena Toledano) and Eymie Hernández, a former Proyecto Estrella 20-30 contestant.

The festival is organized by the National Institute of Culture (INAC).
