Many airlines are looking to create direct flights between their countries and Panama in view of the interest shown by prospective travelers who are eager to explore what the Isthmus has to offer. Among the companies that are considering the possibility of opening new routes is El Al Airlines, the national Israeli airline, which recently met with Gustavo Him, Panama Tourism Authority administrator.
El Al has its headquarters at the Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv and operates international flights to 47 destinations in Africa, Asia, North America, Europe and the Middle East. This will be its first destination in this region and will be a flight of more than 14 hours.
“Currently we are in conversation with the Panamanian authorities and we have taken the opportunity to meet and inform them of our intention to start with four weekly flights from Tel Aviv to Panama City. We have recently acquired 15 new Dreamliner 787-8 and 787-9 planes with wide fuselages, considered the most innovative and advanced airplanes in the world,” said Daniel Stapleton, El Al International Affairs Director.
In return, Gustavo Him commented, “The sustainable growth of the Panamanian economy and tourism, as well as our open sky policy, has captured international interest. We are delighted to receive this new proposal and that the interest in Panama continues to grow.”
Connectivity is paramount to strengthen and develop the country’s tourism, to consolidate it as a world class destination. It is expected that in 2016 five new airlines will start operating in the Isthmus.
