The best food can be found in the most unassuming places, and that is the case of Tierra del Marisco, a quaint restaurant, located in the town of Las Uvas, at the entrance of El Valle de Anton road. Its owner, Reina Barria, is a superb cook that can rival any trained chef. Her secret—fresh ingredients with a great knowledge of flavors.
Tierra del Marisco specializes in seafood and there, you can savour freshly caught sea bass (corvina), succulent prawns, lobsters and other delicacies from the nearby beach of La Ensenada. Mrs Barria also serves very tasty chicken, a chicken sancocho and other beef and pork dishes, with her secret recipe seasoning that gives her food a very distinct taste.
Mrs Barria, originally from Herrera province, in the heart of the country, was a former accountant with a flair for cooking and after her retirement, she decided to open a small restaurant from Friday to Sunday and during the official holidays. That was the beginnings of Tierra del Marisco, a small eatery where she serves a chunky corvina ceviche, that tastes fresh and succulent, lobster tails and the most amazing seafood rice.
Start your meal with the ceviche, for your main dish, order on corvina fillets or a whole fish, crispy on the outside and deliciously moist in the inside, accompanied with Mrs. Barria version of rice with coconut milk with flakes of dry fish (a treat by itself), fresh tomato and lettuce salad with vinaigrette sauce and green fried plantain, a real feast.
The prices are reasonable and the food is cooked while you wait. Tierra del Marisco is located next to El Jardin Las Uvas on the right hand side going towards El Valle. The restaurant is open from 9 am to 7 pm, Friday to Sunday and national holidays, and Mrs. Barria is always there to greet you with a smile.
