A weekend celebration of good food will take place in the lot between the Bio Museum and the former Officers Club in the Amador Causeway.’Menu Panama’ kicks off on Friday, February 19, with a three hour conference about cooking and will finish on Sunday, February 21 with music, food and games. Tickets from $30 at ticketplus for the Saturday event.
International chefs from the most recognized list in the world’s “50 Best Restaurants, Latin America,” compiled by San Pellegrino and Acqua Panama, will be present at this culinary extravaganza. Among the special guests are: Renzo Garibaldi of Osso – Peru (number 34 in the list), Fernando Rivarola of El Baqueano – Argentina (number18) and Carlos García of Alto – Venezuela (number 28). Also present will be Sacha Hormaechea of Sacha – Madrid (Spain) and Juan Jose Cuevas of Condado Vanderbilt – Puerto Rico.
Renowned gastronomers such as Pablo Banos, from Mexico and Diego Salazar, Peru, chairmen of the “50 Best Restaurants Latin America”, will share their experiences with the public.
A conference for student chefs will take place on Friday, February 19 from 9:00 a.m. to midday. It is free and the guest chefs will pass on their knowledge to the budding cooks.
The main event will take place on Saturday, February 20, starting at 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. of Sunday 21, where visitors can choose between a summer wine festival, where 16 wine houses will show their best wines and a food area which will have seven national chefs who were invited to create dishes from “fonda” (small cafes) recipes, like the famous “Donde Ivan”, originating in the Afro Antillean area of Rio Abajo.
The main stage will have musical acts all day long. For the little ones there will be an area with games and for those who are looking for a gift there is a handicraft market. It is expected that more than 1,500 people will attend.
The line-up on the main stage includes: Señor Loop, Calypso Archi, Lucy & The Soul Brothers, Carlos Méndez, Fiebre and DJ Jonathan Harker.
