Culture, fashion and creativity converge again in the eighth edition of Macrofest Panama 2016, which this year highlights the Panamanian creative industry. The festival will start on Monday 14 and culminate on Sunday, March 20 at the Plaza V Centenario and other parts of the Casco Antiguo such as the American Trade Hotel, Casa Góngora, Teatro Anita Villalaz and the Casa del Soldado.
Sr. Loop, Pepe Bahia, La Colectiva and Carlos Mendez are just some of the names that will be part of the musical billboard of Macrofest Panama 2016, plus other national and international artistes who will present their talent in the closing days of the festival which are scheduled for Saturday 19 and Sunday, March 20, at the Plaza V Centenario, at the entrance to Casco Antiguo.
Figures from the fashion world who have already confirmed their presence are designers Lidia Minota, Adrian Carrillo, Geniesse Pierre, John Bejarano, Londy Mendieta, Cristel Ryan and design students from GANEXA college. Commercial companies such as BonAge and American Eagle will also participate.
The agency, Physical Models, along with Nescafé Dolce Gusto, will choose three or four new fashion design talents to participate in the Dolce Gusto collection, expected to be presented during Panama Fashion Week 2016. The winner of this project will receive a grant to expand their knowledge of fashion and art at the Chavon school in the Dominican Republic.
For the first time, Huawei will give the Inova Awards, which seek to recognize the most innovative projects in five categories: design, entrepreneurship, social impact and digital media.
The Pop Up Gallery Macro MAC, under the slogan ‘The Multiculturalism of Panama’ is a competition, where works of art for next year’s festival will be selected by the Museum of Contemporary Art (MAC) to help emerging artists for MACROFEST. The call is open for artists to present their proposals to participate in the exhibition and they will be selected by specialists from the museum.
In addition, a conference and free workshops on entrepreneurship, communication and the creative industry will be held in the Convention Center of the American Trade Hotel on Monday 14, Tuesday 15 and Wednesday, March 16.
The Panama Tourism Authority seeks to strengthen the country brand with activities such as Macrofest and therefore joins the event with the hashtag #visitpanama, already used successfully in past Panama Fashion Weeks, according to Marie Claire Fontaine, producer of Macrofest speaking during a press conference.
