Milagros Sánchez Pinzón writes about beautiful waterfalls in Chiriquí.
Waterfalls in Chiriquí. In the community of Los Angeles, in the Gualaca district of Chiriqui province, you can find some of the most impressive waterfalls in the country.
From David drive 30 kilometers up to the Chorchita river bridge (on the road to Emplanada de Chorcha in the Ngobe-Buglé region), preferible in a 4 x 4 vehicle.
It is the Chorchita river which gives life to the majestic Los Angeles waterfalls. One of them, known as ‘Benedicta’, looks like a water staircase. This “liquid mane” is between 10 to 12 meters in height and is very angular; it runs over a fern mantle which slows down the current. 482 meter above sea level, it is even visible using the Google Earth, digital map in the coordinates 8°31’46.33” L.N y 82°09’48.48” L.O.
However the most spectacular of the Chorchita falls is the ‘Salto de los Caballeros’ ( Gentlemen’s Leap) with a drop of almost 30 meters. Very few people have had the opportunity to enjoy this amazing view. A strong and cold wind can generally be felt in this área and the boulders which surface from the Chorchita river are imposing. If you want to locate it on Google Earth the coordinates are 8°31’24.81” L.N. y los 82°09’45.50” L.O.
Only the most adventurous make it to the waterfalls in Chiriquí and to Cascadas de Los Angeles, but the effort is worth it. You will have to walk for a few hours, and it is best if you are accompanied by guide who knows the area well.
