International guitarists play Panama. For more than 25 years Panama has been the meeting point for the best classical guitarists in the world and the International Guitar Encounter, now in its 13th Year, has contributed to that tradition. It will take place from Sunday 15 to Thursday, May 19 at the Balboa Theater.
Participating in the event are Fábio Zanon, Brazil; Jorge Luis Zamora, Cuba; Lukasz Kuropaczewski, Poland; Marco Antonio San Nicolas, Spain; Mario Ulloa, Costa Rica and resident guest artist, Petrít Çeku, Kosovo.
All of these guitarists have won international awards, performing in important venues in the United States and Europe, from the Carnegie Hall, in New York to the Tchaikovsky Room in Moscow.
“Our main objective is to contribute to Panama’s culture, enriching the musical level of our students and the public,” said Dr Emiliano Pardo-Tristan, president and artistic director of the Panama Guitar Association.
For the first time in Panama, the Guitar Association has organized a Guitar Orchestra which will be directed by the Costa Rican artiste, Alejandro López. The four winners of the Costa Rica National Contest will give free educational concerts to primary and high school students.
The Encounter will also have master classes and workshops for students and professional guitarists. It is expected this year that not only Panamanian students but also students from other countries like Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico, Colombia and the United States will attend the workshops.,
There will also be a Beginners Guitar Workshop where anybody can receive a free lesson.
