Panama Children’s Day 2016. Children are very precious in Panama and every year on the third Sunday of July, which on this occasion is Sunday 17, their day is celebrated with parades and free entertainment for the whole family all over the country. The majority of the towns will have a parade with floats and special activities. The main purpose of the celebrations is for the parents to dedicate that date exclusively to their children.
The Panama Municipality together with the Office of the First Lady, have arranged a series of events that begin on Friday 15 and finish on Sunday, July 17.. All the activities will take place at the Amador Convention Center (former Figali), on the Amador Causeway from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Entrance is free during the three days.
There will be rides, bouncing castles, a pets’ show, magicians, jugglers, clowns, folkloric dances and many other surprises. On the grounds outside the venue there will be an exhibition area explaining children’s rights and duties. On Sunday the celebrations will be moved to the Parque Omar and will open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Nini Moreno, the Deputy Director of Municipality Events said that the great innovation for this year is a Skatepark at Amador Convention Center Square, which includes a skating ring where the whole family can relive the times of the “Golden Skate”, with music and commentaries.
For the little ones there will a space called “Baby Lounge” with early stimulation games for babies from 6-36 months.
Another novelty of the festival is the five themed mini cities: Cultural City, Eco City, Sports City, Techno City and Future City. This project seeks to boost the artistic abilities of the kids, teach them to take care of the environment, practice sports and use technology through the development of interaction skills. More than 40 institutions are taking part in this exhibit. Over 9,000 children will come from the provinces to participate in the festival.
The company ‘Mi Bus’ has joined the celebration by reinforcing the route Albrook – Amador which leaves from Bay E. Passengers should have a Metrocard to pay the fare of 25 cents.
Another event that will take place on Sunday, July 17 is the fair “Yo me Reciclo”, which on this occasion will be dedicated to the children. Entrance is free and it will take place at Los Andes Mall, Plaza Roja, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Children will enjoy storytellers, paint and putty workshops, cartoons, face painting, and a lot of candy. There will be a cat and dog adoption center, a small handicraft market, stalls with information about endometriosis, sports, music, education and finance. Of course, as always, the recycling collection center will be part of the event.
Cinema Metromall, in Juan Diaz, is also celebrating Children’s Day with free screenings of their favorite movies, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. for kids aged between 2-12 years who can come dressed up as their favorite superheroes or cartoon characters. The Mega Mall in Tocumen is inviting children to play drums from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.with “Luna Llena de Tambores”. Youngsters from 2-1 years old will have the chance to play with professional musicians. For more information call 314-1395.
