Boquete Lucero Golf and Country Club
Boquete Lucero Golf and Country Club. Golf Heaven, Tree Houses and A Foodie’s Dream all come together at Lucero Golf and Country Club in Boquete, Chiriqui. Owner, Sandeep Lal, is bringing the dream together, professionally and with a keen eye towards detail.
Lucero is the only 18-hole golf course in Boquete which makes it unique in its size, but also the highest golf course in Panama and quite possibly all of Latin America. It is a hidden gem and as yet under the radar of the golf world. Sandeep tells me the course is intentionally unlisted and unpublicized until every little detail is just perfect. When that happens, golfers around Panama and the world will take note.
At 3,000 feet above sea level, the views are breathtakingly surreal and the holes are challenging. Spectacular views over the city of David or looking up towards the volcano Baru are distractions worth taking a few moments to absorb. Most holes have five tee boxes and although there’s no shortage of water hazards or sand traps, you must also contend with teeing off over the tree tops with the intent of landing on the fairway or green over a seemingly endless sea of trees.
Guest houses are not your typical hotel room nor condo. Unique tree houses, complete with bbq and outdoor lounging area are built high off the ground and, literally, high up in the trees. From the patio, you look out over the top of the forest below and out past the golf holes. The smell of fresh wood mixed with the clean, crisp air is refreshingly pure. Sandeep has designed the treehouses to allow you to be as connected or disconnected as you want. Wifi and cable TV is included, but you have to want it and seek it out. For example, the TV is hidden from view inside a cabinet and ascends up and out only when the remote control is activated, as if straight from James Bond’s Quartermaster “Q”.
After all that golf and playing in treehouses, one gets hungry. And what better place to eat than the newly-inaugurated restaurant in the club house, Seasons.
Seasons is led by Executive Chef and Club House General Manager, Craig Jacobs. Chef Jacobs has traveled around the world and his taste-provoking delicacies are a testimony to his unique abilities and a delight to your taste buds. With oceans and grazing lands within easy reach and plenty of land for on-site gardens, his farm-to-table concept has endless possibilities.
Lucero is first class quality at a level high above expectations. The extraordinary effort that has gone into creating a top-notch, 18 hole golf and country club, houses built in the trees and a world-class restaurant is a testament to Sandeep’s dedication to make a dream come true.
