2019 Panama World Youth Day . In a mass recently celebrated in Poland, during which the Panamanian president Juan Carlos Varela was present, Pope Francis announced that he will come to Panama for the next World Youth Day which Panama will host in 2019.
He made the announcement after celebrating the closing Mass for the July 26-31 World Youth Day event in Krakow, and before leading youth in the traditional Marian Angelus prayer.
This is the first time that this event will take place in a Central American country. Panama has four million inhabitants and the great majority are Roman Catholics.
It is expected that the event will attract at least 100,000 people benefitting the hospitality and tourism sectors of the country
2019 will be very important year for Panama. It is an election year; the second line of the Metro will be completed by then and the construction of the third line of the light train towards Panama West as well as the fourth bridge over the Canal will have begun.
