“LiveWalk PTY” is an application that serves as a tour guide in your Smartphone. It is a dynamic and entertaining way to see historical sites in the old town and, from September, also those in the district of Santa Ana.
The app provides a personalized tour that converts the traditional guided tour into a tailored experience for the visitor, with audio guides and images that tell relevant data about the history, the place where the incidents occurred and their protagonists. This project seeks to encourage the habit of walking and at the same time strengthen the historical ties between new generations and the events that marked the country’s history.
The app’s tour of the “Casco Viejo” is a guided walk that takes the user through 18 different enhanced historical sites, such as the “Plaza Herrera”, the “Iglesia de San José” (with its gold altar), “Plaza de Francia”, the former “Club Union”, the National Theatre, the “Palacio de las Garzas”, the Interoceanic Canal Museum, ending at the “Parque Centenario”, which was once the city’s public market. Recordings used for this tour have been verified by the writer, Rafael Ruiloba, professor of literature and history at the University of Panama.
During the month of September, the LiveWalk crew is preparing to launch its new version for smartphone’s android operating system, making this application and the valuable information it contains, accessible for more people to discover history.
Also during the month of September, it is expected to launch the new app’s guided tour, this time touring the neighborhood of “Santa Ana”. This will have 11 stops, walking from the imaginary “Puerta de Tierra” (Church of Mercy), through the legendary “Café Coca Cola”, the “Parque Santa Ana”, “Salsipuedes” and ending the tour at the “Banco Nacional”, among other historical attractions.
Later in October it is planned to launch two free tours as part of a collaboration with the Ministry of Environment (MiAmbiente). These are intended for Isla Coiba National Park and Volcan Baru National Park.
The application works with a GPS system that automatically plays back the track when you are in the selected historical point. It also has the option to follow a suggested route or create your own, as it has a geo-referenced map. You can share your own photos with other users of the application.
The application has a free version available for smartphones with iOS and can be downloaded in the Apple App Store. Paid versions, with all the descriptions of the routes of Casco Antiguo and Santa Ana are available for $2.99 each.
