Panama la Vieja 497th anniversary. The old city of Panama (Panama La Vieja) is celebrating its 497 birthday, on Monday, August 15. The Patronato del Conjunto Monumental Panama La Vieja is commemorating the date with a series of conferences, talks and presentation of projects in preparation for the half millennium of the city in 2019.
On Monday, August 15 a supplement about the ruins and its history will be published in the newspaper La Estrella de Panamá and on Wednesday, August 17, at 9:30 a.m. Dr. Omar Jaén Suárez will give a talk at the City of Knowledge Convention Center. Other events such as seminaries and an essay writing competition will take place during the rest of the month of August.
During the day of the anniversary, entrance to the ruins is free, but $1 will be charged for the bus that goes around the monument. For more information visit www.patronatopanamaviejo.org/
