Panama National Flower Fair. The Fair and expo of the Flower of the Holy Spirit, will take place from Thursday, September 1 in the village of Las Minas in the province of Herrera. This is the sixteenth edition of the festival which will last until Sunday, September 4 and will be held at the premises of the primary school of Las Minas.
The Flower of the Holy Spirit is a type of orchid which gets its name because its flower is shaped like a small white dove with open wings, a symbol that represents the Holy Spirit in Christianity. This is the national flower of Panama and can be found in abundance near rivers and streams around the country.
During the three days of the fair, various activities take place such as presentations of recognized artists, folk groups, parades, rodeos, “cantaderas”, dances, discos, sale of typical foods, sweets and drinks.
The last day of the fair a folk Mass will be held at the Santa Barbara Church. After the religious ceremony, the folk performances are taken over and the festival closes with a parade of oxcarts, which runs through the main streets of the town of Las Minas.
