San Fernando Hospital Panama. Founded by a group of physicians in 1949, the Hospital/Clinic San Fernando (CHSF) has served the community for 60 years. Nowadays it is a modern medical institution with more than 600 doctors practicing different specialties. There are operating theaters, an emergency room, blood bank and all the infrastructure a hospital needs to operate. Its three distinct buildings also house medical clinics and consultants.
The Joint Commission International (JCI), (a branch of the Joint Commission) gave accreditation to the CHSF in 2011, and again in 2014, making it the first Panamanian hospital to obtain it, which makes this medical institution one of the best in the region This accreditation allows expats from the United States to claim reimbursements from Medicaid and Medicare.
The JCI is a United States-based nonprofit, tax-exempt organization that accredits more than 21,000 health care organizations and programs in the United States. Its international branch accredits medical services around the world.
CHSF also has a hospital/clinic in the beach town of Coronado with bilingual personnel. It has an emergency room, radiology department, clinical laboratory, general practice clinics, odontology department and pharmacy. Specialists come to the hospital several times a week so it is necessary to make an appointment
