A Taste of Panama at Las Tinajas Restaurant. Las Tinajas restaurant, on Calle 51, Bella Vista, is great place to taste authentic Panamanian food. It is located in an old house beautifully restored with rustic elements in each corner that remind you of colonial towns. It is very popular for its folkloric show on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 9 p.m.. It is probably true to say that every expat residing in Panama has taken their visitors from abroad to see the show.
Its dishes are a selection of the most authentic recipes from the interior, such as carimañolas ( fried yucca stuffed with meat), frituras (fried foods), sopa borracha (drunken soup) which is a dessert and many more. It also serves seafood, vegetarian and international food.
The yucca pie (pastel de yuca), a specialty of the house, is a pie with a most delicious chicken filling, topped with crispy and gold yucca on the outside and nice and soft in the inside. It will satisfied the most demanding palates.
This is the place to learn more about Panamanian folklore, dances and the national dress, “La Pollera”. You will witness the dirty devils dance (danzas de los diablicos sucios), zaracundé, cumbias, tamborito and el punto, which show the Spanish and African influence.
