Discover Panama With Ecotur App. Exploring Panamanian forests and their trails is one of the most popular outdoor tourism activities held by visitors and locals in Panama. In a joint effort, the Tourism Authority – ATP, the Ministry of Environment – MiAmbiente and the National Institute of Culture – INAC; have an application for smartphones that guide visitors through the trails and roads of national parks and national forest reserves. This is part of a project called “Initiative for Green Tourism”,
The application is called Ecotur Panama and can be downloaded for free for both Android OS and IOS. The platform offers relevant information about Panama’s national parks in English, Spanish, French, German and Dutch.
The application provides a complete and up-to-date list of the parks and protected forest areas in Panama, and presents complete information on each park; Users of the app will be able to access a wide content that includes location of the park and indications on how to get there, contact information for the park ranger offices of each protected area, a complete description of the type of park that is visited, as well as a little History of the place and their flora and fauna.
One of the most attractive functions is that it has information about the trails and routes to go. It also has a multimedia gallery, where you can find not only pictures of the flora and fauna that can be found in the place, but also videos that show the route to follow in each trail.
It is very important to mention that EcoTur Panama has an emergency button that can be used in case of emergencies; By pushing a button, user can send a distress signal with his location to the nearest park ranger’s office, or choose to make a call to the police department or the national emergency service, all from the same application.
