For more than 25 years, Panama has been the meeting place for a Guitar Party and this year will not be the exception. The XIV International Guitar Encounter, Panama 2017 (XIV Encuentro Internacional de Guitarra, Panamá 2017) will take place from Sunday 28 to Wednesday, May 31 at the Convention Center, Building 184, in the City of Knowledge.
“Our main objective is to make a contribution to Panama’s culture, enriching the musical level of our students and the audience,” said Emiliano Pardo-Tristán, president and artistic director of the Asociación Guitarrística de Panamá.
The educational activities are directed at the next generation of classic guitar musicians of the region and to the fans who want to obtain the necessary knowledge to allow them to become active listeners. The calendar includes master classes, technique workshops, Flamenco and jazz guitar, classes for beginners and the preparations needed to create a guitar orchestra. In addition, there will be conferences, forums and educational concerts. Entrance is free.
Students from Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico, Colombia, the United States and Panama will participate in this event which is considered one of the most important guitar festivals in the Latin American region. “Many young Panamanian guitarists and those from other Latin American countries have come for the master classes and concerts”, said Julio Quimbayo of Costa Rica.
This year the Encounter will offer stellar concerts with artistes from Russia, Costa Rica, China, Mexico and Panama. Tickets cost between $40 and $10 and can be bought at the box office. Students with identification cards can enter free to all concerts.
Throughout the years ‘The International Guitar Encounter’ has presented more than 150 artistes from 30 countries.
