The holes in Panama City can be trying not only for residents, but also for tourists who have rented a car or traveling by bus; sooner or later you will fall victim of a hole, especially at night or when it is raining, when they almost invisible. The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) has a new tool in its arsenal to alleviate this problem: the hole buster truck (camión tapa huecos).

The National Maintenance Director, Yesenia Ríos said that this institution are in the process of acquiring four hole buster truck to keep the roads and avenues, especially the ones in Panama City center in good condition.

The “hole buster” truck has a device that prepares the terrain cleaning the area with a hose that discharges pressurized air, in the deteriorated sector of the road. Later the same mechanism expels an asphaltic emulsion, to create adherence. The machine also has a device that expels grave to fill the pothole for a better driving surface. The process takes minutes depending on the size of it and road does not have to be closed for a long period of time.

However, explained Rios, not all the potholes can be repaired with this machine and for that reason team of workers continue to pour hot asphalt in the areas that need treatment.

Currently the “hole buster” machine is being used in critical points of Panama North, East and West where teams of workers are scheduled to repair and maintain the roads. Soon it will be covering potholes in Via Israel, Parque Lefevre, Tumba Muerto and Arraijan among other areas.

This new equipment does not need more workers, it is practical, safe and allows the maintenance of roads affected by erosion.
