Around 21 hotels near the city’s shopping hub will have 70% occupation for the Panama Black Weekend, in a month considered difficult for the Panamanian tourism, were the results of a survey carried by the Panama Tourism Authority Statistics Department, said the administrator of that institution, Gustavo Him.
According to Him, after a year of hard work together with the Panamanian Shopping Centers Association (APACECOM) it has been possible to promote the event in Central and South America.
“The international promotion of the event has been intense which will have discounts of up to 70% in technological products and recognized brands. What we would like is for it to take place every year,” said Him.
Him said that more than 700 tourist packages of different prices have been sold by several airlines who are supporting Panama Black Weekend, mainly in countries like Ecuador, Colombia and Costa Rica.
“Just on our website compras.visitpanama.com , where buyers can see the offers of various tourist services during those key days. So far we have 51,000 visits,” said the administrator.
As part of Panama the plan to promote Panama as the ideal shopping and tourist destination, the private enterprise has organized several cultural activities in shopping centers and other places.
On Saturday, September 14 the Panama Jazz Festival of the Danilo Perez Foundation will perform from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Altaplaza Mall, while the Queen of Carnival “A Country partying 2017”, Gisselle Ow Young, and her dance troupe will give presentations in all the shopping centers of the capital city.
“Not only will it be a commercial activity, but also a recreational one with different activities and an important gastronomic offer that will be presented to all visitors during those days,” said Him. He also invited local and foreign shoppers to take advantage of sales in the stores.
He explained that a season of discounts was programmed for this month within the framework of the celebration of the “Tourism Month”, taking into account that this is the moment when hotel occupancy is at its lowest point; the shops also register a fall in their sales due to the wet season in the country. Also Central America has school holidays during this period.
Panamá Black Weekend is a commercial promotion with the help of tour operators, hotels, Panama Tourism Chamber, the Chamber of Commerce of Panama and Apede. Likewise the restaurants afiliated to the Asociación de Restaurantes y Afines de Panamá (ARAP), will have discounts between 10 and 25% off the restaurant’s bill.
