Musical Summer Camp for young musicians
The National Association of Concerts has organized the XXXIII Youth Musical Summer Camp for young musicians which will take place from Monday, January 22 to Saturday, February 3. Children and youngsters ages 7 to 25 from youth orchestras from Panamá City, Colón, Chiriqui, Panama West, Los Santos and Herrera provinces will participate in this event.
The summer camp is the brainchild of Terence Ford G. who saw the need to contribute to the education of youngsters who were part of the National Symphonic Orchestra Youth Plan. The first camp took place in 1986 in El Valle, and today its main headquarters are located in the City of Knowledge, which is the strategic partner.
“Music has always had an important impact on people’s lives, especially when it has to do with learning and culture. During the two week of the camp we teach disciplines, responsibility and team work, the perfect combination for an excellent final work,” said Ford.
The students will receive master classes from professors of the Oberlin Conservatory, Ohio, United States, the EASTMAN School of Music, University of Rochester and Dr Nell Flanders of the United States, as well as from Panamanian musicians.
Since 1986 more than 4,800 young people have participated in these camps and a high percentage of them are now renowned musicians or are members of the Symphonic Orchestra.
During the two weeks of the camp the students will perform in different venues. The first presentation is on Saturday, January 27, at 7:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Bijao. Entrance is free. On Sunday, January 28 they will be at the Iglesia San Jose of El Valle de Anton. Entrance again is free and the concert begins at 11:00 a.m.
They will continue with their performances on Tuesday, January 30 at the Anita Villalaz Theater, Casco Antiguo with a “Musical Collage”. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $5 general entrance and students $2. The City of Knowledge will be the venue for the next presentation that takes place on Friday, February 2 at 7:00 p.m. Entrance is free.
