The community of Chitra, in Calobre , Veraguas province, is a beautiful farming community where the inhabitants grow coffee and some of the best vegetables in the country. The Chitra Fair showcases that produce and will take place this year from Friday 16 to Sunday, February 18.
Visitors come to the Chitra Fair attracted by the quality of the handicraft that can be found there, and also by its proximity to the hot springs, which according to popular belief are very good to alleviate certain ailments such as arthritis and fibromyalgia.
Farmers from more than 15 nearby rural communities will bring organically grown oranges, lemons, grapefruit, watermelon and papayas. During the fair there will be rides, folkloric shows, popular dance marquees and cattle exhibitions.
Chitra is also close to La Yeguada forest reserve and the dam that produces electricity for the central provinces.
It takes approximately 5 ½ hours by car to get to Chitra, Calobre from Panama City, but the road to the town has amazing mountain views and the inhabitants are very friendly.
