Parque Omar, located in San Francisco, will be the setting of Musicalion 2018, a musical and exercise extravaganza which will take place from Tuesday, February 27 until Sunday, March 4. The event which will run for six days, will present a musical, classical music, ballet and the interpretation of pop, typical and urban music with a symphonic twist. Entrance is free and all the shows begin at 7:00 p.m. If you wish you can bring your pet.
“The festival is organized by the “Aria Foundation” with the support of the National Culture Institute (INAC), and seeks to strengthen the scenic arts through training, education and staging high quality plays”, explained Ricardo Velasquez, head of this organization. “We want for everybody to know the importance of the cultural forms and their impact on the national economy.”
The program will begin on Tuesday, February 27, with the musical “Cats” by Andrew Lloyd Weber. “Cats” is a sung-through British musical based on “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats” by T. S. Eliot, and produced by Cameron Mackintosh.
The musical tells the story of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles and the night they make what is known as “the Jellicle Choice” and decide which cat will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and come back to a new life. The popular song, “Memory” comes from “Cats”. The first performance of this musical was in 1981. A cast of 40 artistes will take part in it, among them are: Luis Arteaga, Diana Durán, María Cecilia Triana, Luis Rosman, Iván Herazo, José Julián y Carmen Cecilia Muñoz.
On Wednesday, February 28, the Panama National Ballet will present the show “More than Love” (“Más que amor”), a night where body language, classical music and symphonic pop will express the various stages of that feeling call love.
Thursday will be a day for the children with the show “Enchanted”, which pays homage to Disney princes and princesses. The little ones will be able to listen to their favorite soundtracks from such films as “Frozen”, “Mohana”, “Tangled” and many more.
Musicalion is not only for those who like classical music, but it caters to a wide variety of tastes and on Friday it is the turn of electronic music. “Illusions” is an evening of DJs and electronic fusion, where you can dance and have a great time.
After all that culture, you need to relax and on Saturday, the “Yoga & Chill Out”, begins from 7:00 a.m. so come with your mat and water and prepare to be one with the universe in the peaceful surroundings of Omar Park.
The great finale is on Sunday, March 4, where the Panama Symphonic Orchestra together with Karen Peralta, Víctor Ballesteros, Diana Durán, Nicole Puga, Manuel de Jesús and Manuel Corredera will put a different twist on popular salsa, typical, urban and rock hits.
