Saint Anthony of Padua – The patron saint of lost things

Saint Anthony of Padua is a revered in the province of Las Tablas, especially in the community of Peñas Blancas, where every year on June 13 the whole community gives thanks to this miraculous figure and hundreds of devotees come to the small town to pay their respects.

The saint, also known as Anthony of Lisbon, was a Portuguese Catholic priest and friar of the Franciscan Order. He was one of the most quickly canonized saints in church history and is the patron saint of lost things.

The festivities in his honor at Peña Blanca are very traditional. The mass and procession are accompanied by music, with local artistes playing violins, accordions, guitars and drums. There are serenades and a fireworks display.

The province of Los Santos is full of tradition and culture and this fair offers the perfect opportunity to experience Panamanian customs at their best.
